NEXT STOP: DIGITAL BLISS.

Hey guys! The Tour de Bliss has officially departed, but I'll let you know when future excursions open up. In the meantime, enjoy your weekend getaway!

WHY THE TOUR DE BLISS?
The Tour de Bliss is a new way of interacting with your business that uses the power of observation, discovery, and your natural enthusiasm to get results. Developing your business is the most important use of your time, but it's not enough just to know that. You need to want to do it. And in order to want to do it, it's got to be fun, and you've got to know that what you're doing is effective – at least as effective as the time you spend getting clients or wooing customers. (Your brain is smart; it won't get motivated to do something that it thinks is a waste of time, especially when there is so much else to do).

WHY DIGITAL BLISS?
Your business is not just a means to get you to someplace other (although, ironically, you’ve got to get outside your pre-conceived environment to find it). Your business has the potential to be your own utopia, a world where your strengths and energy are magnified instead of depleted every time you open your doors. Every marketing system you implement, every product and service you offer, every person you bring in to support you, every single thing you do in your business will be easier, more fun, and will bring in more money with less effort.

What’s included in the group tour with Sarah:
  • An annual passport to our secret website, which holds all of our destinations, as well as the hot air balloon we'll be using as our mode of travel.
  • An interactive experience shaped by the needs of our small group (the group experience is limited to 25 participants). We'll be buddying up for group excursions (where you get together with a partner to trade insights), fireside chats (via teleconferencing and Google Hangouts), swapping travel tips in the common area (we have a lovely forum), and helping each other get clarity and resources for where we want to go.
  • Trips not only to other areas of the Money Garden and the Day Designery, but the Product Patisserie, the Idea Exchange, the Tower of Glint (I am completely serious), and wherever else our explorations take us.

What's included in the self-guided solo tour:
  • An annual passport to our secret website, which holds all of our destinations, as well as the hot air balloon we'll be using as our mode of travel.
  • A self-led experience (though you'll be encouraged to send feedback about the things that you're working on/have questions about, to shape the direction of the tour)
  • Trips not only to other areas of the Money Garden and the Day Designery, but the Product Patisserie, the Idea Exchange, the Tower of Glint (I am completely serious), and wherever else our explorations take us.

This might be for you if:
  • You've been in business for at least a little while and are familiar with the basics (this is not a course in business basics).
  • You know that the time you spend developing your business is crucial...and you want a system for doing it effectively
  • You are more interested in going your own way than following someone else's pre-configured system.
  • You have to trick yourself into working sometimes (hey...me too).
  • You need space to develop your business that feels fun and not horrible.
  • You want to live inside my brain for a year (warning: it can get weird in there).

  • You want to craft your offerings so that they make a real-live profit (as opposed to a fake profit, which isn't as fun).
  • You want to stand out based on the meaning you are inherently born with; not based on what's trendy or fashionable or a "sure-fire money-maker".
  • You are repulsed by the phrase "sure-fire money-maker".
  • You want to belong to a tight group of smart, committed people who are passionate about both the WHY and the WHAT of creative entrepreneurship (I recommend the group tour) OR you are a self-guided phenom who likes to keep it on the d-low (the solo tour's probably right for you).
  • You want to approach your business in a systematic way; making observations, testing out ideas, and documenting the results.
  • You think if you could just have clarity, enthusiasm, and intuition, you could do anything.

This might not be for you if:
  • You need to learn basic business concepts (like creating a business plan, basic marketing and sales, etc.)...though to be honest, I've never created a business plan in my life, and I've done pretty well without one.
  • You think your obstacles are too big for you to succeed (i.e. I can't succeed because I don't have investors; I can't succeed because I'm not that smart or talented or creative, etc.).
  • You would never go anywhere called the Tower of Glint.

  • You're not remotely curious about what the Tower of Glint is.

The Tour de Bliss is a tuition-based program. Because registration is limited, your commitment is also non-refundable. Make sure this is what you want before you decide to join us. (Also, we're real people over here, so if you ever have any problems, we want to make it right as quickly as possible, no matter what.)

The difference between the group tour and solo tour

The group tour is an intimate experience. It is limited to 25 participants. In addition to the content we'll be exploring together on the website, we do live work together via teleclass, and we have smaller group sessions via Google Hangouts (since there is only space on a hangout for 10 people, it's great for that). We also have a private forum, which is for doing group excursions and exercises. The content for the entire year is shaped by the needs of the people on the tour. You'll get to ask me your questions and get feedback on what you're doing.

The solo tour is self-guided and formatted much the same as the weekend getaway, with a focus on working with the concepts in a variety of ways so that we can assimilate what we're discovering and make the changes that need to happen. There will also be opportunities to submit what you're currently working on/have questions about in your business, to help shape the direction of the tour.

TWO WAYS TO TRAVEL.

Year-long group tour, with Sarah (currently 2 spots left out of 25): $2400

Tour begins on April 16th

How much of a time commitment will this take?

The most important part of the work you'll be doing together is the work you'll be doing within your daily business activities. We will be experimenting with this daily -- this part of it may take 1-2 hours per week in the beginning, but once you've got your system in place, it should take no more than the normal planning that you do (which, ideally, is at least one focused session of time a day...a minimum of 30 minutes daily).

The other part of the work we'll be doing is going on strategic destinations. These are there as a resource for you as you are setting your intentions and working toward them. Every destination, every activity is optional. I want you to focus on the strategies that get you to your next intention and save the rest for another time. There is no rush. We have a full year, and what you do not get to within that time, you can have in your business development arsenal for use when it's most relevant to you.

If you're going on the group tour, some of those destinations will include live calls, chats, and Google Hangouts (I am anticipating having a few of these per month, to be scheduled based on the needs of the group). There is also a forum that you can participate in and use as a collaborative workspace. These are optional and will be recorded for anyone who is not able to attend.

In summary, to get the most out of the experience, focus on what you want to happen next. That is what I want you to pay attention to (not an arbitrary schedule).

What things will we be exploring in the strategic destinations?

Although the experience is based on the needs of the group and is therefore subject to change, some of the potential areas we'll be exploring include:
  • How the digital marketplace is changing and what to do about it
  • Systematizing your content creation process so that it's natural and easy for you to produce (and sticky and meaningful for everyone experiencing it)
  • Leading your industry by changing its underlying assumptions to be more in tune with what you believe in and how you want to work
  • Hiring (or not hiring) in a meaningful, sustainable way
  • Designing your company culture around your strengths and beliefs
  • Creating pricing guidelines in line with the goals you want to reach
  • Establishing meaningful and effective partnerships
  • Vision-casting in a way that sustains and motivates itself
  • Developing a flexible brand that grows with you as your business changes
  • Re-defining how you interact with your marketing
  • Setting goals that reflect the qualities you want to experience along the way
  • Examining your relationship with money and creating a healthy framework for strengthening it
  • And, as they say, so much more. (Though my goal for the tour is to focus on depth rather than breadth, my brain is exploding with stuff it wants to explore this year; whatever we don't get to this year will be fodder for future tours.)

I’m so excited! (And so is Mo). As soon as you submit your payment, you’ll receive a receipt in your inbox, as well as emails from us leading up to our departure date. WOO!

If you're still not sure, here is a letter I sent to my most trusted readers, clients, and people-I-like. It might help explain my underlying vision for making this an extremely personal experience, whether you're going on the group tour with me or the self-guided solo tour.

Thursday, March 29, 2012

I have learned something about sales pages this week. They are not as evil as I used to think. They are not long because people want to keep you baited until they finally reveal the price (at least, most people aren't that way). They are long because there is a lot of information people need to know to figure out if what you're doing is right for them. Most people won't ask questions if they don't see what they're looking for; they'll just go away. (Luckily, you guys have been super-open with me about what specifically you need to know. Thank you.)

One of the things people have been asking is about my vision for the direction of the curriculum. I am going to share some of that now. With one caveat. During this tour, I am adjusting things as I see what is working/what is not working. I rely on questions and feedback from everyone taking the tour so that I know what areas will be most useful to explore next and where we need to spend more time. I have worked hard to develop the curriculum that I have, but I am a designer. If I see something that could be improved, I am going to try to find a solution. (This is why the feedback/questions are so important to me; I need to be connected to your experience to help my grand vision for this -- and for you -- happen.)

The Tour de Bliss is not going to be information overload. We are covering a lot, but we have an entire year. That's why I gave us that long. This is a whole new system and experience of business development, and I want it to be a part of you by the time we're through (and hopefully much sooner than that).

If you took the Weekly Dates with your Website (with Mo), this is not going to be like that, where you have an exercise to complete every week and then we move on to the next exercise. We are learning a new way to think and interact with our businesses. And for BOTH the group and solo tours, I'm going to be asking for feedback from you to shape the direction we need to go to accomplish that.

What to expect from this experience (a wide-angle view)

We start by creating our own versions of The Manifest. Whether you use the downloadable book I've designed, or create your own (if the word "Manifest" doesn't work for you, for example, or if you want to do it in Scrivener or if you want to use index cards in a photo album or something), we are going to create this tool for observing and documenting our businesses.

This tool is designed to be a natural extension of your current workflow. We are going to continually hone it so that it doesn't feel like something "extra" that we have to add into what we're doing; it's a tool for capturing information in an intentional way (even information you discover outside of the Tour de Bliss...all information you explore this year in developing your business is going to be a part of this experience). Whether it's a class you're taking elsewhere or an ebook you purchase or a blog post that really hits home, we are capturing that information and experience and using it intentionally. No more ingesting piles of advice/strategy without having a system for implementing what is closest to your very next intention.

Learning how to use this tool will take time. We will be doing strategic experiments to help us learn how to use it best for ourselves (while simultaneously learning things about our businesses that are entirely new to us). The more the tool becomes a part of our workflow, the less we'll be focusing specifically on the tool.

Next, we set our very next intention(s). This is what makes big dreams doable...knowing clearly what you are doing next. (This doesn't have to be what product you're launching next; it can be what you are focused on exploring/experimenting/changing next. Some people might want different intentions for different projects they're working on. Some people might want to have only one intention that they're working on at a time. Either way is valid.)

Then, we explore possible ways to meet those intentions. If you're going on the group tour, we'll be doing this interactively. If you're going on the self-guided solo tour, you'll get to do this within the experience, as you discover the different destinations we'll be traveling to.

Then, we experiment. Here is the way I see business. Business is not about success or failure. It is about a series of experiments and refinements. It is about playing with concepts and trying them out. It is about being vulnerable enough to do that (and shucking your pride out the window from time to time). So we experiment. We make observations. We see what happens. And then if we don't get the results we expected, we try something else. We record our results, and we keep going.

Through all of this, we'll be exploring destinations that include specific strategies and how-tos for the things we need to know for our experiments to work. This experience is not primarily about strategy, though there is going to be a lot of sharing about my personal strategy and experience, as well as "strategy at large" (i.e. what the experts say to do). Since this is not a one-on-one experience (though the group tour is intimate), some of the strategy may not be related to your very next intention, but will need to be filed for later use. In other words, you do not have to do everything on this Tour, though you are welcome to enjoy everything. What I want you to do is focus on your very next intentions and what you need to experiment and find the results you are looking for.

Man, I love writing ridiculously long emails (I think I just love writing, period.). Thanks for letting me share with you about this thing I made. I'm very excited, and I hope that the weekend getaway kindles your enthusiasm for working on your business. And if you're coming on the year-long Tour, you can register here.
